Oklahoma turnpikes
The Oklahoma Turnpike system, overseen by the Oklahoma Turnpike Authority (OTA), offers travelers a network of well-maintained controlled-access highways. With the majority of turnpikes boasting at least four lanes, these roadways provide efficient and smooth travel throughout the state. In this article, we will explore the various turnpikes in Oklahoma, their unique features, toll information, and the convenience of using the PikePass system for toll payment. Oklahoma Turnpikes Overview: Oklahoma's turnpike system consists of several well-known routes, each contributing to the state's transportation infrastructure. These turnpikes include:
- Cherokee Turnpike
- Chickasaw Turnpike
- Cimarron Turnpike
- H.E. Bailey Turnpike
- Indian Nation Turnpike
- John Kilpatrick Turnpike
- Muskogee Turnpike
- Turner Turnpike
- Creek Turnpike
- Will Rogers Turnpike
- Kickapoo Turnpike
- Kilpatrick Turnpike

Chickasaw Turnpike[2] is a toll road in Oklahoma towards the south central region and has 2 lanes. The turnpike connects Murray County and SH-1 near Roff.
Cimarron Turnpike
Cimarron Turnpike[3] is a toll road in north-central Oklahoma. It passes through Noble, Payne and Pawnee. The turnpike connects I-35 in Noble County to the western suburbs of Tulsa.
H.E. Bailey Turnpike
H.E. Bailey Turnpike[4] is a four lane toll road in the southwest region of Oklahoma, US. There is a free part of the turnpike running through eastern Lawton. The turnpike connects Wichita Falls, Texas to Lawton, Chickasha and Oklahoma City.
Indian Nation Turnpike
Indian Nation Turnpike[5] is the longest toll road in the US state of Oklahoma connecting Hugo and Henryetta. The turnpike is a continuous four lane limited access highway consisting of two sections.
John Kilpatrick Turnpike
The John Kilpatrick Turnpike[6] is a toll road lying entirely within the city limits of Oklahoma city of the US. It connects the west of Council Road with exits to Morgan Road, Sara Road and SW 15th Street.
Muskogee Turnpike
Muskogee Turnpike[7] falls on the eastern part of Oklahoma. The turnpike connects Broken Arrow Expressway and ends at the west of Webbers Falls.
Turner Turnpike
Turner Turnpike[8] connects two important cities in Oklahoma, US- Oklahoma City and Tulsa. The Turner Turnpike has only one barrier toll plaza and the motorists are issued a receipt.

The Creek Turnpike[9] forms a beltway around the south and east of Tulsa. The turnpike passes through Sapulpa, Jenks Tulsa, Broken Arrow and counties of Creek Tulsa, Wagoner and Rogers.
Will Rogers Turnpike
The Will Rogers Turnpike[10] falls on the northeast part of Oklahoma, US. The turnpike connects Tulsa to Missouri. It runs parallel to US-66.
Kickapoo Turnpike
The new Kickapoo Turnpike partially opened on 13 November 2020 as a new addition to the turnpike system in Oklahoma. The turnpike is a 4 lane divided highway in Oklahoma connecting Turner Turnpike to NE 23 Street / US Highway 62 on the South. It connects Oklahoma city to Harrah and Luther. The turnpike allows for high-speed commutes with a speed limit of 80 mph. The remaining section of the Kickapoo Turnpike is expected to open in February or March of 2021. Gilcrease Expressway West and Southwest Kilpatrick Turnpike Extensions
The OTA has envisioned the Gilcrease Expressway West and Southwest Kilpatrick Turnpike extensions as future additions to the turnpike system. The Gilcrease Expressway West, a proposed 5-mile extension in Tulsa, will connect the I-44 junction with the L.L. Tisdale Parkway.
On the other hand, the Southwest Kilpatrick Turnpike, a proposed 7.5-mile extension in Oklahoma City, will link the I-40/US-270 junction with State Highway 152 (SH-152) in southwest Oklahoma City. These extensions, once completed, will alleviate congestion on major roads in their respective areas, providing new east-west routes in Tulsa and Oklahoma City.
Oklahoma turnpike tolls
The toll rates across the Oklahoma turnpike varies depending upon the payment method: whether PikePass, other tags or cash. Use Oklahoma Toll Calculator to calculate tolls and gas costs to travel through the Oklahoma turnpike.
How are tolls calculated for trucks in Oklahoma
Trucks with additional axles incur higher toll charges than passenger cars. The OTA collects tolls for trucks electronically through the PikePass system, promoting a streamlined payment process. Trucks without a PikePass will be subject to higher toll rates, encouraging the adoption of this convenient electronic toll payment method.

If you could not pay toll while crossing the gantry or booth, it will be counted as a toll violation which needs to be paid later. Learn about the various ways to pay missed tolls in Oklahoma.
What is PikePass
PikePass or PPass is an electronic tag that you can install in your vehicle to pay tolls on Oklahoma turnpikes. You need not stop to pay tolls; it'll automatically deduct relevant charges from the linked account when the vehicle crosses the electronic gantry. The PikePass is cheaper: average 5% less than cash rate tolls. Refer to the PikPass tag to get information about how to use it, where it works and more.
Is the Oklahoma Turnpike cash only
The OTA plans to complete the transition to fully cashless tolling across all turnpikes by the end of 2024. This transition aims to eliminate cash toll payments at toll plazas, simplifying the process for drivers. Instead, travelers will need to use the PikePass transponder system or PlatePay for their toll payments.
How to get a PIKEPASS online
You will need the following to open an account online:
- Driver's License Initial Payment must be paid by Credit / Debit card
- License Plate or VIN Number, State, Year, Make & Model for each vehicle
