Tolls in Kentucky are managed by RiverLink[1] and all the toll facilities have all electronic tolling, meaning no cash booths. Payment methods include E-ZPass I-PASS or RiverLink transponder, or pay later when you receive bill in the mail. You can open a prepaid account and save one dollar for each river crossing. However, E-ZPass and RiverLink tag option is cheaper. You cannot pay using cash.
If you are planning a trip to Kentucky and already have an E-ZPass transponder that works in the E-ZPass network, you do not need to purchase RiverLink transponder for paying tolls. Here is the link to more infromation on E-ZPass Network[2]. Here is list of states/toll roads that are in E-ZPass network and accept E-ZPass for paying tolls:
- Chicago Skyway
- Delaware
- Illinois State Toll Highway Authority
- Kentucky
- Louisville-Southern Indiana Ohio River Bridges
- Maine
- Maryland
- Massachusetts
- New Hampshire
- New Jersey
- New York
- North Carolina
- Ohio Turnpike
- Pennsylvania Turnpike
- Rhode Island
- Virginia
- West Virginia Parkways
Your another option can be to get a RiverLink Retail Kit. RiverLink retail kits are available at Speedway locations throughout Kentucky and Indiana. The kit includes a RiverLink prepaid transponder, a reload card and a RiverLink customer agreement. Drivers do not need to register their transponder or their car to use the prepaid transponder. But you would need to add a minimum balance of $20 to it and there is one time $3 activation fee. There is a $1.50 reloading fee every time money is added to the prepaid transponder. Here is more information on RiverLink Retail Kit[3].
